Inter-Regional Championships 2006
Northern Region Team – Trials
Information for Clubs, League Team Coaches & Players.
The NZIHA annual Inter-Regional Championships will be held on Labour weekend in New Plymouth
Each of the four regions is invited to enter a team in each of the U12, U14, U16, U18, U20, Open, Junior Women, Women & Masters grades and the overall results are combined to determine the winning region. Northern region has entered teams in each grade.
Earlier this year the Northern Region sought applications for the coach & selectors for each of the grades and has made appointments based on the responses received. The coaches & selectors will select trialists and teams.
Any player registered with the NZIHA via a club in the Northern Region is eligible for selection to Northern Region Teams.
In general, females are requested to play for female grades, ie Junior Women, or senior women. Players who are eligible for Under 12 grade may be selected to their age grade. This is a consideration given that there are large size differences between an under 12, and a 16 year old.
The “extra year” for female players does not apply for Inter regional competition.
In the junior grades U12, U14, U16 and Junior Women players will not be selected to a team higher than their lowest age eligible grade.
In the U18, U20, Masters and Open grades the coach/selectors may consult with each other during the selection process to ensure that players are selected, with the overall objective of winning the Inter-Regional Trophy in 2005.
A list of players invited to attend trials will be circulated to clubs shortly. The coaches of Junior Women, Women, under 18, Under 20, Open and Masters are requesting ALL AVAILABLE PLAYERS to attend trials.
In the U12, U14 & U16 grades any player who has been permanently playing up a grade throughout the Regional Leagues will be allowed to attend trials. (e.g. if a U16 eligible player has been playing in the U20 grade in the Leagues they will eligible to attend the U16 trial)
In overview coaches & selectors are charged with the task of fielding the best possible team.
Squad and team selection will be based on performance in the Regional Leagues, Regional Playoffs, & Nationals (where applicable) together with any selection trials that are conducted.
A schedule of trials will be distributed very shortly. The under 12, 16 18 and Masters will have their first trial over the weekend of 2/3 September. The schedules might change to suit the coach and teams when selected.
Expected dates, subject to rink availability are; 2/3 September, 9/10 Sept, 16/17 Sept, Oct7/8 and Oct 13/14.
The cost per players attending trials & practice sessions will be $5.00 per rink/hour for each session.
For those players selected to inter-regional teams the costs will be $75.00 per player to cover the cost of a shirt $50 and entry fee $25. Where a player has a shirt (in good condition) from a previous year then the cost will be $25.00
