2001 Regional Championships Event Notice

 

Organising Authority

·          The organizing authority for the Lower North Island 2001 Regional Championships is the Lower North Island Regional Committee.

 

Rules

·         The Lower North Island 2001 Regional Championship will be conducted under the N.Z.I.H.A. By-laws, N.Z.I.H.A. Game Rules and this Event Notice.  Teams must be uniformly dressed in jerseys and pants.

 

Eligibility - Teams & Clubs

·         The 2001 Lower North Island Regional Championship is open to teams, entered by clubs in the N.Z.I.H.A. Lower North Island Region, in the U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, Women, Senior, Premier and Masters grades if entries permit.

·         A club may enter more than one team in any Grade in the regional League Competition, but only one club per grade can be entered into the Regional Championships.

 

Eligibility - Players

·         All players must be currently registered with the NZIHA for the club they are playing for.

·         Players are to be entered as playing for one team only on any one day, however players may play in another team of their club a maximum of three times provided that they comply with age eligibility. Where a player has played for another team on three occasions they shall remain with the team that they next play for the rest of the competition.

·         Exceptions may be made in the case of:

q       women players (ie 14 years of age and over) who are permitted to play in both the Women’s grade and their age grade on the one day if approved by their Club management.

q       Masters players (ie males aged 35 and over and females aged 30 and over) who are permitted to play in their playing grade and the masters grade on the one day if approved by their club management.

      Please note that they are only able to play in one grade at the Regional Play Offs and at Nationals.

·         Other exceptions can be made in cases of an emergency or injury.  Such exceptions are rare and are made at the discretion of the Regional chairperson.

 

Dates

·         Games will be scheduled to commence 6 May 2001 and finish no later than 2 September 2001.

·         There will be no games scheduled on 3 June 2001.

·         If possible games will not be scheduled on 9 July 2001.

Venues

·         The Nothing But Wheels, Wellington Recreational Centre, Manawatu Dragons, Kapiti Skate and Blade, Rimutaka Rink, Jackals Rink and Jubliee Stadium rinks may be used depending on the number of teams entered and rink availability.

 

Format

·         There will be two Senior grades, split according to the requirements of the teams.  Division one will comprise those teams wishing to qualify for a place in either the senior or premier grades at nationals.  Division two will comprise of teams not wishing to compete at National level.

·         There will be a double round robin within each of the Under 16, Under 18 and Women’s grades.

·         There will be a single round robin within each of the Masters, Senior Division one, Senior Division two, Under 14, under 12 and Under 10 teams.

·         At the end of the series of round robins the winners of each grade will receive a trophy as the winners of the round robin competition.

·         The top five teams in each of the grades except Masters, Senior division one and Senior division two will compete in a playoff.   The first and second place getters in the regional playoffs shall represent the region at the National competition.

·         The top two teams in the Senior Division one will be deemed as Regional Premier teams and will playoff against each other at the Regional Championships to determine seedings for Nationals.  Teams placed third to seventh in the Senior Division one will compete in a playoff.   The first and second place getters in the regional playoffs shall qualify to enter the Senior competition at  the National Championships.

·         There will be no Regional playoff for the Masters nor the Senior Division two teams..

·         A team will default if they are not ready to play within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.  Where possible early notification of a default should be advised to the host club.

 

Officials

·         All teams are to provide one scorer/timekeeper for each game.

·         All clubs are to provide a suitably qualified referee for each game.

·         The rules endorsed and adopted by the NZIHA for the 2001 year will be used.

·         Games shall be two 20 minute periods, with a 2 minute half time.

·         Stop time will not apply in Regional league games.

·         Overtime will not be played.

 

Draw

·         A draw will be published and distributed to all clubs by the Regional Secretary after the close of entries, and not later than 20 April.

·         All games are to be played as per the draw but the Regional Chairperson may reschedule if it is in the interests of the competition. 

 

Results

·         Game scores are to be recorded in an N.Z.I.H.A. Official Scoring Book provided by the host club. 

·         A score sheet must be completed for each scheduled game, including those defaulted or forfeited.

·         A copy of the score sheet shall be given to the Manager of each team at the conclusion of each game.

·         It is the responsibility of the Host Club to forward the top copy to the Regional statistician (1188 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt) no later than 10 days after the game.  In the event of a score sheet not being received on time the visiting team shall be awarded two points and their score and the host team shall be awarded no points and no score.

·         Game results and competition progress results will be distributed to each Club by the regional statistician at the end of each month as soon as possible after they become available.

 

Points

·         A win will be awarded 2 points, a draw 1 points, a loss 0 points, and a default, forfeit or no show will result in minus 1 point being deducted from the teams overall points.

·         At the conclusion of the round robins or playoffs team teams that have equal points will be resolved in favor of the team that beat the other when the tied teams last met. If that fails to resolve a tie, then the tie will be resolved in favor of the team with the best ratio of goals scored for and against over all games in the event.

·         In the case of a defaulted game the team defaulted to will be given a score of 5.  The team defaulting will receive no score.

·         In the case of a game forfeited the team forfeited against will retain the goals scored during the game. The team forfeiting will receive no score.
